Default Dorman 615-183X intake

I'm wondering if anyone has this intake. It looks like an LS6 intake but taller with long runners for a truck motor. I think it could be cleaned up to look as good as the car intakes. The two different factory truck intakes make great power but are just too damn ugly.

It looks like the fast truck intake. I haven't seen any info on it. It would be nice if someone would do a test.

Could be a TBSS or a SSR intake. Post pics.

Would be interesting to see what difference the "X" makes.

Bottom of intake may look different assuming the pics in the internet are actual pics.

edit - looking again, not so sure the bottom looks any different.

The Dorman product manager has an account on this site, maybe PM him.

Default 615-183x

615-183X is a Made in China knockoff of our manifold. This is not a Dorman unit. Our 615-183 is proudly made in the USA.

Maybe you could shed some light on this intake and leaking at idle. I purchased this intake for a slight performance over the stock 99 truck intake. Myself and another member installed the same time on different motors his leaked from just torquing it down to the heads at the front and back where the 2 halves come together. Myself I saw some slight separation in these areas. I removed the intake and put the stocker back on but he separated the 2 haves and plastic permanent epoxied the 2 halfs together to get rid of his vacuum leaks. I have a boosted motor so I know I couldn't run it without glueing the sides together.

I got my real dorman like 6 months ago from summit racing.

care to comment?

Just so I'm clear you are talking about the China manifold having an issue not the Dorman? Our units are 100% leak tested before they boxed. If there happen to be an issue leaking please submit a labor claim. We will review the part and see what was going on.

nope, mines a genuine dorman intake, purchased from summit racing. I doubt you will accept it as its been ported and shaved. The back and front of the intake (seal rails) separate slightly when the intake is torqued down.

Its not worth paying for shipping for you to check out when I can just permanently seal it up to be safe. removable sections is great but not at the expense of leaking due to flex.

Is the X actually a knockoff or is it just Dorman's secondary brand aimed at capturing another market segment?

If that were true Dorman would not speak about it in the manner depicted on this forum.

That's a false assumption. Dorman is a big company and they could have licensed the mold to Super Auto (or vice-versa) without most people in the company being aware. If it really were a knockoff, it's close enough in design that Dorman could/would take legal action if that were appropriate since the Super Auto company has registered trademarks and B&M stores in the states.

Dorman, LOL. I work in the field and I would run a salvaged j.b. welded intake before any of there intakes touch any of my cars. Ask them Ford boys about those npi and pi intakes and the problems they have with them right out of the box.

Oh labor claims, Our O-reilly's runs out of them when it comes to anything with Dorman on it. You guys do what you want, but they are what they are.
