Default What is the technical name for this part?

I have a friend at work with a 99 T/A. This piece coming out of the front of the intake manifold has a hole in it and it is whistling. His car has been running like crap. Is there a way to repair this part or does he have to buy a new one. I explained the part to a guy at a dealerships' parts department and he said that piece was $75. What is the best plan of action? Thanks.

have any pics of what you are talking about? just by guessing it could be the PCV hose, or right behind the throttle body is the EGR hose hook up.

that's the PCV valve, shouldn't be $75, if it just the neck that has a hole you might try a peice of emissions hose, I think the hole size is 3/4".

What about a piece of emissions hose with a clamp on it? Is that too much rigging?

The guy at the dealership seemed to think that you had to buy the whole piece that goes back to the back of the engine. Is that true?

you shouldn't need clamps.
the elbow (what you pointed to), PCV valve, and hose are all separate parts. If just the elbow is damaged, replace it, not the PCV valve (which I assume is what the mech. you spoke to thought you were referring to). Shouldn't be 75 bones for a 2 inch rubber hose.

All good ideas. But I have a question. What that thing on your throttle cam? The little boxy thing with the cable running through it. I have cruise and traction control, and I don't ever recall having seen anything like that on my throttle body.

you wont see it on your car one is the cruise cable the other is the acc. cable
this car does not have tcs/asr when you have tcs and cruise its controlled by another module on the pass side of the engine compartment, cylinder type shape only one cable goes to throttle body

At first I thought you were pointing to the throttle cable
