Default LS6 vs TBSS Intake

I have an 02 bird with a LQ9 and LS6 intake. Is the TBSS Intake any better than the LS6 and will it fit a 02 bird?

Thanks guys!

Fitment shouldn't be an issue. I don't know how much better the TBSS intake is over the LS6 intake. Do you already have the TBSS intake? I haven't looked, but I would expect they are damn hard to find.

In my opinion not worth the trouble of swapping it.

Hotrod compared several LS intakes dyno testing. Interesting read.

http://www.hotrod.com/articles/20-ls...ifolds-tested/

Stock LS6

eBay Price: $195 - I paid $400 a few months ago, price is higher than $195
Construction: Composite
Runner Length: 11.0 in
Throttle Opening: 2.960 in
Throttle-Body Size Tested: Accufab 78mm
Fuel Rail: Wilson Billet
Injectors: Holley 75 lb
Peak Power: 557 hp at 7,000 rpm
Peak Torque: 483 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm
Ave HP (3,000–7,000): 432.0 hp
Ave TQ (3,000–7,000): 450.9 lb-ft
TQ at 4,000 RPM: 454.3 lb-ft

Stock Trail Blazer SS
eBay Price: $210 note found one for $160 a month ago
Construction: Composite
Runner Length: 9.5 in
Throttle Opening: 3.45 in
Throttle-Body Size Tested: FAST 90 mm
Fuel Rail: FAST (modified mounts)
Injectors: Holley 75 lb
Peak Power: 562 hp at 7,000 rpm
Peak Torque: 497 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm
Ave HP (3,000–7,000): 444.4 hp
Ave TQ (3,000–7,000): 464.6 lb-ft
TQ at 4,000 RPM: 469.5 lb-ft

The TBSS was about 10 hp & 13 torque better LS6 on an engine dyno per the engine used in the Hot Rod article.

That is an excellent response, Black Bird. I especially appreciate the link to the source of information, as well as the disclaimer you added at the end about the results being on an engine dyno and specific to the engine used for the test.

Happy to share that article. I think it's a good read.

Eventually, I want to do another LS1 or LS2 swap for my other 3rd gen Camaro and dyno the LS6 vs TBSS for a typical heads & cam set up. I wish Dorman would get their LS2 90mm intake out for us to test too!

Yes its better, it has the advantage of being much bigger. Remember it's designed to work with truck accs and no windshield overhang. If you can overcome that youre golden.

The TBSS intake is several inches taller than an LS6. It's not going to fit in an f-body without major cowl modification.

Will a shaved TBSS intake fit under a stock cowl?

Even shaved the TBSS intake will not clear without modification to the cowl.

A buddy of mine tried to stick my old TBSS on his 98 Camaro a couple weeks ago. Even hammering the cowl it didn't fit. Would've needed cut/trimmed.

For reference, the TBSS Intake is about the size of a whipple supercharger on top of the engine.

Fixed that for you.

The TBSS & LSXRT both will fit in a 3rd Gen fbody Camaro. I'm not sure if they will in the 3rd gen Firebird with its sharper raking hood profile.
My 91 RS had the LSXRT for a while.

If trying to get a TBSS into a 4th Gen fbody, how much space would lower profile engine mounts to provide?
