I wouldn't "gut" them. Either remove them completely or if your worried about the visual inspection gut them and run a piece of pipe through them. In my opinion a big open chamber(empty converters) wouldn't be that good for sound or performance. Just my .02.

How would empty converters be not that good for performance. Wouldn't that be allmost the same as removing them?

It's not that empty converters would be bad for performance. I'm sure your exhaust tone would probably change for the worst. It would almost be like screaming into a cave. A sort of echo effect. That's why he mentioned gutting them and then running a straight pipe through them.

I have the SLP cats so would I need to still run a pipe through them?

I gutted my cats (pre headers) when I had a LM, sounded like complete ***, installed a Hooker catback and sounded great, the same still holds true with LT's and ORY pipe to this date.

Ken, your car sounded like *** because the loudmouth sounds like *** w/o cats. Not too far off w/ cats either.
