Exhaust Question??
How does the Magnaflow cat back compare to the Borla Cat back? I'm thinking about gutting my cats and I can get the Magnaflow for free. Any ideas on what I should do?

don't do gutted cats. keep the borla, there's not enough of a difference between it and the MF to matter. if u do LT's then u can make a decision about your cats. not to sound like a broken record or anything.

Gutted cats are worth about 5hp from what gets posted about them.
Also, folks that do it complain that gutted cats make more 'dirty' noise than an ORP. Empty chambers make for nasty noises apparently.
Magnaflow passes 1100 cfm flow.
Borla flows 900 cfm.
Hooker flows a little over 900.
The reason I throw Hooker out is because it is the only muffler that is said to sound good with an ORP.
Borla is one of the worst sounding with ORP.
Now, it stands to reason if an ORP rasps, and gutted cats sound worse, you would not want the Borla on there.
The good thing is you have plenty good pipes with the Borla, so you could just get a muffler like the Hooker and put on there alot cheaper than replacing the entire cat-back. Even with the free Magnaflow, I would just change the muffler if I went that route.
Just some food for thought.
Good luck
Dave
BTW: Send me the Magnaflow if you don't use it!

haha...are you sure that is not with the plate closed on the Borla? A closed off Borla is much quieter than most other exhausts and more restrictive partly because exhaust is exiting through just the longer bent pipe rather than the straight open pipe. I'm a newbie, but it seems that they probably tested the flow through those mufflers by themselves.

I figure it was with the bypass closed.
Why would they test a muffler's flow only to have a cut-out open in front of it during testing?
That brings me to the question: Why buy a complete exhaust with a cut-out built in to make flow? Just put a cut-out on the stock exhaust for a fraction of the money... Assuming you like the sound of a cut-out. IMO they sound like ***.
