QTP Headers
I bought a set of headers from QTP a year and a half ago. The problem is that I've only put 4000 miles on them in that time and they are rusting pretty bad. They were coated when I got them from QTP and are not the stainless ones. I called QTP about them rusting and got the big go away. Is it common for coated headers to rust in only 4000 miles?

Yep I have QTP stainless steel headers, and no rust, even after a winter driving on salted roads. But they do get dull looking; they aren't as shinny as when new. You just can't win. The problem with exhaust systems is they get very hot and have cold, corrosive liquids thrown on them. That's a pretty challenging environment for any material. You could have some custom headers made out of Inconel or Titanium if you have unlimited funds!

I have QTP stainless headers. The primaries at the top just have the normal discoloration due to the heat (purplish-blue), but I think it looks kinda cool. The bottoms near the collectors is very discolored (yellowish-brown), but its not rust. The car was driven in the winter so it was been exposed to salts. All in all I'm more than happy with them.

My Jet-hot's started to rust a WEEK after putting them on. Kobwo, you said you only put 4k miles on your car in the past year and a half, where has your car been stored or sitting? Maybe thats part of the problem, but like everyone has said, they are going to rust eventually. Coating just slows the process

I wouldn't worry about it too much, my headers have also started rusting a little and they have the coating as well. One thing I have found that helps if you want to take the time is use some turtle wax chrome polish on them. I did this and it actually got rid of some of the rust and has pretty much prevented new rust. Just have to keep cleaning them with the stuff.

Because when I could pick up a set for the same price as some Hookers, it was well worth it.

I always felt that coating does crap for corosion. It's merely used as a temperature barrier. I plan to get Stainless and then coat them. Or if I win the lottery, custom titanium.
