Question Used Headers.

I could get a really good deal on MAC HEADERS.
My question is would there be any problems with buying used headers?
I know they were on at least 2 cars, and about 2 years old.
I will be able to see them before i buy them.

I got a set of used (uncoated) Macs, coated ORY and uncoated catted Y for $400 - about 4 years ago.

They are still holding up fine.

I recently had the headers JetHot coated and man they look great now. There weren't any problems with them, just wanted them to look prettier so I had them coated.

You can expect 15-20rwhp increase over stock manifolds, with a decent tune. You will be giving up somewhere around 10rwhp under the curve and around 5-8rwhp on the top end vs. some nice longtubes, but you should have no ground clearance problems or O2 code problems.

Used headers are fine, as long as they are not rusted or anything. MAC's seem to have great car life, too.

As long as they are in decent shape, go for it. Also, if you can, port the primaries and you will see damn near as good of gains as you would with LT's.

I got my LT's used, but they were newly Jet-Hot coated, but still looked awesome. I'd say go for it as long as you have pics and the price is right.

Thanks for the information. Maybe i can get a little more than 15-20rwhp because i have a 216 cam in my car. What do you think ?

Maybe a little more. You will see some more low end with that cam than with with the stock cam would with MACS.

only "problems" I could see are:

- cracked/dinted from hitting the ground (speed bumps and driveways)
- rusted
- coating old

all of these you will be able to see. If they don't have any of these problems (of if the coating is just old and you don't mind sending them off to be recoated) then I would grab them up quick if the price is right.

I picked up a set, with gutted y-pipe for my swap engine. ($250 total, couldn't pass it up...)

They had some "rust" down towards the collectors. They're working fine for me.

I got a set of used MACS for my son's 94 Z28. Excellent price and the best thing was I smoothed out all the rough welds before I got them coated at Jet Hot. They were in pretty good shape, but they looked brand new after getting them coated. They still look great after a year. Worked out great.
