Default Free ram air mod results???

I recently purchase my '02 A4 Z28 andwas lookin into performing the free ramair mod. But, I'd like to hear from some of the one who have performed the mod, first. Concerning the results you guys have notice on the performance after the the mod. Did the help in any areas of performance that you could noticed???

TIA,
Don

Yes, and while many will argue that it did/does nothing I firmly believe my car ran a little bit quicker and faster after doing it.

It was free. Take it for what it's worth. You get what you pay for. I did it, but don't think I gained.

Not much difference, maybe made some on the top end. It will not hurt you for sure. I would use some kind of washable filter because it will get dirty much faster.

i did it on mine...i would say get the ssra, and you would have to cut it anyway...it's free, and there isn't any consequences to doing it, vs. something like porting the maf.

if you're going to get the slp cold air, get the ftra or ssra extension...they are worth the extra money

FRA =
you cant deny higher air flow.... but intake temps might raise slightly since the heat from the radiator is now in the air stream.

I thought long and hard about doing the FRA and finally decided against it. I couldn't find anyone with hard results and I just don't believe that people can feel 10 hp with their "butt meter." I also live in Arizona and did not want to pick up hot air off the radiator. Take a good look and you'll see that the car pulls air from a cold region in the nose of the car that is fed with the two openings in the grill. All I did was raise the air box and add some weather stripping to the back to seal it off. I didn't feel anything with my "butt meter" but I figured it didn't hurt.

if the filter gets dirtier in the place that you cut out, it must be getting a lot more air.
ive also observed most that have claimed more power in the butt-o-meter had an A4.

I lost 1 tenth in the 1/4th with the FRA mod . Combined with a air lid i lost 2 tenths in the 1/4th. I think it was good mod. Especially because it was free. I noticed a louder air rushing sound after the mod also.

you're not going to get 10hp, but what do you mean it won't help? you're making the hole bigger to let more air in. and air is still channeling from the same place whether you do this mod or not.

think of it this way, its a quick start to when you're gunna do FTRA or SSRA(which i love), but you have to cut out the bottom for those anyways, so you might as well do it ahead of time and get whatever small gain you get from it.

Not sure if you are getting more air, however, you are definitely getting dirtier air. I think GM really thought this one out. They did such a terrible job on the 93-97 Camaros, I think they tried to do a better job for the LS1 cars. The stock airbox pulls from the front of the nose and this is fairly cool air. The FRA mod lets you pull air from in front of the radiator and I think that's why it's hotter and especially dirtier. I'm not knocking people that do the FRA, I'm sure under the right conditions it's better. It's just in a hot climate like AZ, I didn't want to do it. I think I saw some logged data that showed under normal driving conditions the FRA was much hotter than the stock airbox. I sure wish someone would come up with a good kit that put two good size ducts from the front grill directly into the airbox. I'm betting that this would be just as good, if not better than the cold air kits like the Fast Toys and Austin kit without the problem of blocking the radiator or sucking in water.

Oh yea, and anyone doing the kit would have to include a new windshield washer reservoir and mounting bracket since I can't see a way to do the ducting without removing the reservoir.

Put it this way: there was a magazine write-up were the people did all the free-mods to an LS1 and only got 7rwhp out of it. There's no way that the FRA mod ALONE can give you 10, if all the mods together only give 7, unless the FRA was the only power-gain, and everything else was BS.
