Default Okay, so bottom line: does ls6 intake need a tune?!?

Did a search, but couldn't find a straight answer.

2000WS6Vert lost 3 tenths and 3 mph after his ls6 intake install. Is this a normal result for the ls6 intake swap without tune? Because at FLP and Speed Inc, a tune is $500+ (!!!)

I am itching badly to finish my boltons, but I don't want to LOSE power!

I know that I would BENEFIT from a tune, but what I want to know is will I actually LOSE power until I get one?

So what's the final word? Does the swap NEED a tune?

Basically, what I am looking for is whether it was the intake swap that cost you the power, or whether it was something else. Because I REALLY want to do the swap...

I doubt it will cost power. I don't know what happened with 2000WS6Vert, but it's not normal. Just make sure you don't have any vacuum links and you'll be fine. I installed an LSX intake and felt a big difference. Then again, it was right after headers and some other things, so I never had it tuned yet. Don't worry about it, and just do it! As long as you do the swap right, you'll make power.

As with the other bolt-ons, if you want max output, you're gonna need a tune. I haven't seen too many cases where you lose power, but I guess it's possible.

Nikon1999 seems to answer the question....it needs tuning.

I know I did it right, it's pretty hard to screw it up...it either fits or it doesn't. No big deal, I'll get my power back when I tune it.

Sine I will be getting a tune eventually, then I will do the intake swap so long as it does not COST any power. It sounds to me so for like 2000WS6Vert's problems are a fluke and I should not expect the same. Man, I feel for you, but you'll get it in order sooner or later!

Anyone else, feel free to chime in with your results and boost my confidence!

(Oh, and BTW, am I right in assuming a tune is going to cost me $500?)

get a tune when you have ALL your bolt-ons and a cam. don't waste it on just bolt ons(unless someone will hook you up with a tune cheap since its just boltons). you shouldn't lose any power, thats honestly the first time i've heard of anyone losing power from an ls6 intake swap. install it and let her rip. full dyno tunes cost $400 @ fastech in dallas. just to give you a comparison.

Thanks. I will NOT pay for a tune when all I have is bolt ons(only a few). I'm going to buy an HPTuner and try it myself. I'll save paying someone if I can't figure it out when I get a cam.

I reset the PCM in the meantime....like black_knight said...maybe it was a fluke...but track numbers don't lie.

I encourage everyone to go ahead and do it. If you are serious about modding...it is an absolute MUST DO mod. Do I regret installing it? No way.
To borrow a phrase...."I have a plan...."

I'm going to go for it, then. And I'll hold off on the tune unless I can get it free/cheap until I get a cam or H/C. Thanks for the advice, all!
