it eliminates the coolant from passing through your throttle body, which in turn heats the tb up and why heat up the housing where you want the air coming in, to be as cold as possible to begin with?
go to shaner's website, he has details on what is exactly needed for a $5-7 tb bypass kit from lowes do a search on google cuz he's not a sponser here yet AFAIK.

I'd recommend getting a kit so you don't have to go looking around for the right parts, and it should add about 20 HP or so...well, maybe not that much, but every little bit helps, right?
FWIW, I ran my bypass in Colorado Springs during the winter without issue. It'll be going to Chicago in a couple of weeks as well.

There are 2 parts to the TB mod (the original form anyway). You also do the bump-stop mod where you grind the surface of the throttle bump stop so the butterfly opens 100%. It's opens to about 90-95% from the factory. You really need a tuner to make sure where 100% is. If you go past that point you will throw TPS error codes.

be careful if you want to do this, mine was opening to 99.xx% already so do not grind it until you KNOW you need to

I would not waste my money on a "Kit" when I can all be bought from a hardware store for under $2. I purchased two brass fitting from the plumbing section of Lowes and 1' of fuel line from Auto Zone. Spent under $4 total I think. I've never got a chance to drive in 25* or colder weather, so far no freezing problems.

grinding really doens't help a whole lot. some open to like 80%, and you can see that its OBVIOUSLY not opening far enough. its not tough to tell when its time to stop. you'll prolly get to 95% but its better than 102%. you'd be better off doing the half-shaft mod if you want simple gains from your tb.
good idea on the kit, like i said hit up shaner's site. it has everything listed if you don't want to put any thought into it at all.
