Default Austin Ram Air (SSRA) Kit ????

Anyone have it?
How safe is it as far as sucking up water compared to the FTRA?
How much HP could an SS hope to pick up with this?
How does it compare to the competitors?

Sorry for the barrage of questions

Cheers

If you already have the FTRA just keep that. If you are still just stock right know, your money could be spent on other mods. I suggest a lid+FRA and cut-out. for you first mods. I gained .25 at the track, and it only cost me 160$ for both mods. Any ? pm me.

You'll need to use a blockoff plate or foam insert to protect your engine during heavy down pours. You do need to use a little caution but it's worth it because the SSRA is a better design then the FTRA IMHO.

There is no way to see these gains on a Dyno since the car needs to be in motion and at higher speeds for the real gains to be present. But you should gain roughly 10-15 rwhp but ONLY when at highway speeds. I would guess the SSRA is worth 1.5-2 tenths in the 1/4 mile vs 1-1.5 tenths from other competitors. I have nothing to back that up other then what I read when I was researching which CAI to get. IMO SSRA > FTRA > SLP CAI but still they are all pretty close to one another.

Thank you for the replies. I am at a loss, because I thought I read of a kit that made the stock SS hood alot more efficient.... ???
Here in Fl we get some monster downpours, so I will have to research a little more as to what is the safer route to go.

Cheers

Florida here, and have the SSRA. I have only blocked off the intake twice (both for hurricane scares this past season), and never a problem.

I hope someone else knows about the SSRA II. I saw a thread about it a while ago, I tried a search but couldn't find it.

I've got it, i've met Al himself(creator of ssra), great guy, he has a proven 13 rwhp on his 2002 SS, otherwise stock, with 60 mph airflow.

ftra here, and you only have to worry about heat sink when you are sitting in the staging lanes. but once you start moving, it gets back down. the ftra is a better design than the slp cai and the ssra. although Al makes a great product with the ssra, the ftra is proven to be a better product. and cheaper!

Default Ssra

Hi..I have the SSRA 2 . It's pretty much the same design as the FTRA. However, it's cheaper ($125.00), lighter, and Made in the USA.

I have the SSRA. Daily driven in Miami with plenty of rain.
I don't think the SSRA is worth any tangible ET (.1 sec if any), but it does improve MPH traps by about 1mph.
I've kept it on the car even though it's fallen off at the track (I made some modifications so that it mounts to the car in a more solid fashion- longer screws and I've fastened the top half to the bottom half with some screws).
I'm still not sure if blocking off the SS hood proves any benefit- I've driven it with it both blocked off and open.
In the end, I think all the FRA devices are all the same. The difference between them is minimal. They all shove air up into the lid.
