Default 160 deg. Thermostat?

I tried searching and didnt find much about them.....How come nobody ever talks about them? Are there actually proven gains?

Thanks

keeps your engine about 20 degrees cooler. Probably wont see a gain but it helps.

Only things I noticed was a cooler temp, and little more timing in the summer heat. With the stock thermostat on a Hot summer day I would get about 26* advance @ WOT, after the 160 it would go to 28*. This was on a stock tune.

You don't actually want your engine to run much cooler than the stock thermostat opens at. I think your best bet is to get a fan switch (good) or have the fans programmed to come on earlier (better). Or both like I have (best)

A cooler running thermostate by itself does not do much, the only main thing a cooler thermostate does is allow you to run more cooler so you can run more timing advance and that in itself will increase performance. Just my opinion.

My car was always hot as heck. With the 160, it never gets really hot. At the very least, you should lower the fan settings with your stock thermostat. The stock settings will allow your temps to go 230+ degrees. You can pretty easily knock 20 degrees off that. Normal temps I see with a 160 are 170-182 degrees (winter time right now). I don't think I ever go much over 190 in the summer though.

i run a 172t-stat from vinci hi-performance. 160 is a little too cold and last summer it never really got over 82-85 deg here anyway.

I did my cam, header, 160, and other things all at one time. I have not had a bit of knock since. Do not know which of the installs helped most but my car runs at 180-185 now with the fans reprogrammed instead of 210. More than likely helped my knock go away.

yeah, I plan to switch to a 160 t'stat after this winter. Winters here in north GA get pretty cold and I want some HOT heat from the heater. Well at least this one winter cause I don't plan to switch it back.

Here in Central Florida, mine helps it to stay cool when I get stuck in traffic. We get some pretty hot/humid days here.
