Default Oil pan pickup tube distance from base of pan?

Does anyone know if the engines oil pickup tube needs to be a certain distance away from the bottom of the oil pan?

Are truck and F-body pickup tubes the same or different?

The oil pans are diffrent so I would assume the pick up tube is diffrent. I didn't get an exact measurment when I installed mine, but it was close to the bottom of the pan.

It needs to be close to keep it from being uncovered while cornering, or accelerating or braking.

I moved mine to within 1/4" of the bottom of the pan, and was advised to move it back. The reason that I was told, is the hot oil will vaporize from the vacuum produced with the small gap, then condense to liquid form again in the pump, causing chatter and other problems...

I think it was around 9/16" stock, and I ended up with it at around 7/16".

So general rule of thumb of around 1/2" from base of pan will be safe to use?

Happy Xmas dudes
