Default Borla Mouth

Has anyone made a borla mouth with the oval XR-1 (borla p/n 40944)?

If so, can you send me pics of your set up?

Getting the BORLA XR-1 #40085 bullet in there is tough enough as it is; my floorboard had to be hammered in a bit to allow the bullet to fit in propperly.

Sorry bud... getting that oval muffler in there would call for too much floor banging.

I've had the Oval XR-1s and they're pretty beefy mufflers. Checkout the webshots in my sig.

What's the width/thickness of the oval Borla? I don't remember why now but I thought about going that route 3 years ago , I'm thinking I was going to slip it between the d/s and the floorpan but went with the round Borla instead.
I never did get the round Borla in position where I wanted it, I miscalculated the angles on the pipe cuts and ended up with a fairly low riding muffler (in a BF Hurry when I did it). Luckily, the only time it drags is in extreme road situations or when the car is loaded down.
Could be the oval XR-1 tucks in pretty good sideways? I don't know, but one thing is for sure: almost any modification to to a LM is going to be an improvement as far as irritating rasp goes - at least if you have an A4.

Here are the dimensions of the oval xr-1. Far to big to attempt installing into the i-pipe.

Case Shape - Oval
Case Length (in) - 12.000
Overall Length (in) - 17.000
Thickness (in) - 4.500
Width (in) - 7.850

The 40944 is:

Case Shape - Oval
Case Length (in) - 16.000
Overall Length (in) - 21.000
Thickness (in) - 4.500
Width (in) - 7.875

I'm going to give it a shot. I spent a few hours under the car right after I posted this, and I think I can get it in there and have at 0.5" clearance from the body/DS. In this position, I would end up loosing about 0.25" ground clearance.

For ***** and giggles, I slip fit the muffler on while I had her in the air - sounds BAD ***!

I need to post the pics, but just to let you guys know, it works with the oval muffler. It took a little massaging on the LM, but we were able to get the oval muffler in with no loss of ground clearance, and no banging on the body/DS.

I knew it would fit! I should have gone that way before going with the Magnaflow, but I'm happy now anyways.

it took a while to find the right spot for the muffler. I'm guessing the 40085 would have been cake. FWIW, if you are not planning on welding your exhuast together, invest in the band clamps. U bolts are leaking pieces of garbage that will make it next to impossible to get your plumbing seperated.

I have the "Borla XR-1 Round Sportsman Racing Mufflers" #40086, part number in Jegs is 157-40086. Its the 3-1/2" round muffler. I was going to get a 3-1/2" cut-out before it but there was no room. Had to bang the floorboards in a little, other than that the round 3" (40085) will fit fine from what I've heard/seen.

It looks like my 3-1/2" fits alot better, no offense:

Looks like it fits in there pretty well to me! Do you mind if I add your pictures to www.ls1sounds.com? I'd also like to host your videos if you wouldn't mind sending them to me.

None taken. If you had to bang you floor boards in, then you didn't install it right. The oval fit in with no clearance issues and no banging in anything. The round should have popped right in.

Doenst matter though. Either way they turned out to be a nice sounding exhaust.

Not sure who you were refering to, but I don't mind if you post the pics. I will get some better sound clips. The original ones I took came out like *** from where I had the camera. I should have the video done in a few days. PM me the email address and I'll send it over.
