Replacing MAF screen...what are my options?
Hello all. I just purchased a '00 Formula and the previous owner removed the MAF screen. It's an A4 and I heard this can alter transmission line pressure. I don't want to jeoprodize my tranny's life for a few HP so I'd like to replace the screen. Do I have to buy a new MAF? Is the SLP MAF worth the money? It's cheap, like $180, right? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure many A4 cars have gone without a screen but I'd feel more comfortable with a screened MAF. How much are new stockers? Would the SLP unit be better then the stocker if my sole purpose was having a screen and not for picking up power? Thanks.

I don't know anything about the SLP maf in particular, but in general an aftermarket maf is going to be like a ported stocker, not a good idea on an A4. You should definatley find out if it is bigger, or will have different flow characteristics before putting it on your car.

Thanks for the replies guys. I pulled the MAF out and it someone did also port that thing. Both sides of it are nice and smooth and the lip on both ends is very thin. I bought a new stock MAF from the dealer for $261. Since I don't know how the old one was ported or by who I figure it was worth the piece of mind buying a new one.
