Default Question about exhaust rasp.

So I have Borla with no cats. You can imaging how much it rasps. I have the plate taken out so it's wide open. Is the rasp comming from not having cats, or from the muffler? If I take the muffler off, and replace it with pipe, will it still rasp? ShouldI not do that because of the Borla design?

any info would help!

thanks!

The rasp is from the ORY. Some bullet mufflers in the Y-pipe will clear that up.

I had the same problem so I had a Borla XR-1 bullet type muffler welded on to the I pipe. the part # is 40085. I don't have a soundclip but it sure did quiet things down and my car has no more rasp. The floorboard had to be hammered in a bit in the tunnel areal on the passenger side rear seat. here's a link of the XR-1 on a Loudmouth setup; at the top you'll also be able to download a soundclip.http://www.javagator.com/z28/images/borlaslp/

I replaced my DynoMax bullet with a Borla XR-1 recently and was pleasantly suprised. Still pretty loud, but the rasp is GONE! However, I am getting some metallic rattling, so I may have to adjust the pipe a little. Otherwise, I am very pleased with this set up.

I have a jet hot ORY and the borla mouth exhaust (I used the oval muffler) and I still get rasp. The rasp didn't start till I !cats. The problem is with the ORY. I just live with it for now.

it is still crazy loud at WOT. Under normal driving conditions it's still a bit louder than with stock manifolds/cats/with the Borla plate wide open. Rasp is completely gone. After I got the XR-1 I actually get on it a little more now that I'm not embarrassed the way it sounds now.

How will it do with the cam? When I took the cats off the cam loped a lot more. Will this take the lope away again like the cats?

No, the borla is straight through with a screen lengthwise down the center. The screen helps to kill the rasp and the perforated core absorbs the noise, little or no restriction.
