QTEC Carnage
Merging onto the freeway today at 4K rpms in 3rd gear with my QTEC closed suddenly it sounded like someone opened my cutout halfway. I then heard something banging underneath the car and hitting the road. I pulled off the freeway and looked underneath and found that my QTEC motor had blown off and was banging around on the road and underneath the car. It was hanging by the power cable, so I disconnected it and continued on my course. I got home and took everything apart and found that the 3 screws holding the motor together had vibrated loose and that's what caused it to come apart.
It's pretty done as the gears were lost on the highway and without them the motor will not turn the butterfly. I took off the QTEC plate and put my cutout plate back on capping the cutout. This is a warning to you guys with a QTEC, those three screws holding the motor together are not locktited and will probably eventually work there way out and you will be in my position.
So take the motor off and locktite those 3 screws.
I don't mean to slam QTP with this post by all means, just wanted to help others not have to have this problem. I'm gonna give Barry @ QTP a call and see what we can work out.

that's crazy...mine did the same thing today although none of it fell off. I tried to open my cutout but it wasn't opening so I turned car off and hit the button and could hear the electric motor moving but the butterfly stayed shut. Reached under and it felt very loose, took it off and the screws holding the motor to the butterfly were very loose. Tightened them up and added some loctite and now it's as good as new.

QTP offered to fix it for $30, but as of right now it's not worth the time @ $ to get it fixed. LS1LT1, It's nice your QTEC has worked so great but I would be locktiting the bolts I posted about or it might not work anymore.
