Default 98 temp sensor in 00???

seeing has how the 98 cars had the only functional coolant temp sensor gauges do you guys think it would be as easy as changing the sending unit???
i figure it couldnt be the sensor on the block because the PCM still needs to have an accurate number to calculate everything. any ideas???

The '98 has a 3 wire sending unit. One wire goes to the gauge.

The 99+ has a 2 wire sending unit, and the pcm forwards a signal to the gauge.

The best thing to do is to purchase two real gages to monitor the oil pressure and coolant temperature ... the factory gages are crap to say the least..
