Default ahhhh! help me with this rattle!

its so frustrating. its a very faint rubbing noise, sounds like metal just chattering together. it is comming from right above the tranny right at the firewall. i cannot find anything. i checked all exhaust bolts and they are tight, checked the back of the head, side of the tranny, under the dash, and i cant see anything loose. im just wondering if there is something in the dash that might be loose (the dash was out for new air bags) or something. i know its hard to help but ive run out of places to check and maybe some of you all will help trigger somethign in finding it. thanks

my cat back system makes something in my car rattle and i can't figure it out. also when the dealer was supposed to put a new tranny mount in, except they just tightened it and said they replaced it, it vibrated like HELL then all of a sudden it started banging again.

Is the rattle at start up and goes away once the car settles in for few minutes or seconds? Or is this all the time? When you start the car, leave the door open and have a friend check under the car or vis versa?
the heat shields can throw the sound around and confuse the actual location of the rattle.

My 2 cents.

It sure sounds like your heat shields, as they warm up they change and the noise disappears.

Same problem w/ my car. I still say you make SURE that it isnt the heat shield, especially the one under the passenger seat. Mine didnt rattle against my Y pipe but against the frame. Take it to a any muffler shop and just have them spot welded. No more than $5-10$ bucks
