Default dumb question: port exhaust manifold?

Sounds like a dumb idea... but in PA I have to have emissions testing, including all stock exhaust components (engine to cat). So has anyone entertained the idea of 'porting out' the stock manifolds? Is there enough 'meat' in them to consider this, would there be heat issues with a thinner wall? And this is assuming I could get them off and have deep enough access down the runners.
Any thoughts?

I dont know why you would want to port the stockers unless you are going to run them full time. They definitly can be ported. The welds on mine were disgusting. One primary had the weld literally dripping down halfway into the exhaust path where it hardened. just don't port too much. But I would buy new headers, even shorties before I ported my stock ones.

Ran mine ported for 4 months lots of material can be taken out. Lady Redhawk raced her car last year all season with ported stock manifolds with good results also.

Chris, what year is your car ? In PA now- newer vehicles only get a PCM diagnostic + gas cap check. That means no sniff test, no visual.

I ported mine, just port-matched to the gasket basically
(using the soot-rings as a template). The '00-'02 logs are
not bad. If you have a '98-'99 you might want to use '00s
(still have EGR ports but better design) along with the later
pup-cats (or less). I just tried to relieve any sharp edges;
some spots are pretty thin already, the castings aside from
the flange area seemed fairly nice and smooth. I used a
carbide burr and die grinder, the cast iron works pretty
easy.

There is a place in wisconsin the extrude hones manifolds. try doing a web search, it looks to be pretty popular. I know they do it for the Factory Appearing Stock Tire drag series

Wow.. well my car is an 01, and I live in Lancaster, and yeah its only OBD and gas cap, but I thought it was more... my friend works at a shop and I have heard him say many times that it was a visual check to see if all components were there, but I guess I interpreted that to mean all stock parts... I guess if I have all stock O2 sensors and they work fine it should be good. I'd get long tubes if I could, and now I guess I probably can. If not, I guess I will look into extrude hone or find someone who's had some experience with doing some porting etc.
Thanks all!
