Talking Just Changed my Fuel Filter!

Well after literally two years of holding off and changing it, I finally sacked up and did it. I was afraid I wasn't going to do it right and wasn't even sure what filter to get. All I did was go to the local NAPA auto parts and asked them for a fuel filter for my car. It only cost about $14.

The install was cake, it took about 20 minutes from jacking up the car to putting away the tools. The hardest part was unhooking the battery, thats how easy it was. I followed the install university instructions. They said the fuel would drain out for about 10 minutes but mine only took a minute or so. Not very much gas came out either. What did come out I just put into the lawnmower. The filter itself is easy to remove and put back in.

I cut open the filter out of curiosity and it was nasty. I am guessing it has about 50k miles on it unless they change them at service. The filter was black and there was all sorts of particles and junk in it. I'm glad it's not in there anymore.

I'd just thought I'd share. I will definitly be doing this way more often now.

Just curious. How did you cut the filter open?

I have a metal pipe cutter I use for irrigation plumbing. It only cut about 2/3 of it and I used a Dremel for the rest. A hack saw will work just fine.

I was going to cut mine open but I was afraid the sparks from the dremel would ignite the gas.

I was going to ask the same thing. I tried a hacksaw but I think mine's kinda dull. I tried and it wasn't getting anywhere. It's a good thing cause I did it just after I took the filter off the wife's car.

Yup, once a year here also..........when the track opens back up.

The way I look at it is there's no way of telling when/if you may have gotten crap in your gas in the previous 12 months.
Cheap & easy insurance that you aren't being robbed of any power.

I agree, never more than 20k-25k though....some people (even really power/performance minded ones) let it go 50k-100k in some cases, that's nuts.

I was never sure how hard it was and I have had my car for 9 months now. It already has 47k on it and I'm not sure if it has ever been changed. I'll definitely do that this weekend. Thanks.

My car has 57K on it and I'm going to change it in the spring before racing.
