Default "Mother of All Bolt-Ons Swap" driving impressions...

Same internals (TSP231/237 cam, TEA Stage 1.5 5.3L Heads) for both setups;

Old Bolt-on setup:
MTI Lid, Stock MAF, Jantzer TB, Stock LS6 Intake
SLP LT's, Custom 3" True Duals (gutted cats) Magnaflow 4x9 Ovals dumped at the axle

New Bolt-on setup:
TSP 85mm lid, Pace Z06 MAF (calibrated for ls1), FAST 90mm TB, FAST 90mm Intake
QTP 1 3/4" HVMC LT's, QTP Dual Elec. Cutout ORY, SLP 2OTL catback

Other items new:
SPOHN Poly/Poly Fixed LCA's, SLP Adj. Tq. Arm, UMI Adj. Panhard Rod

Drivetrain:
Spec III, HD DS, Moser 9" 4.11's

I've been driving around with this setup untuned for a few days now. Tuning and dyno shall occur sometime in the next 2 weeks.

Initial driving impressions; THIS THING KICKS ***!!!

I don't know what it is about this setup, be it the High Velocity Merge collectors of the LT's, or the 90mm intake, but the car feels much, much more responsive down low. The TSP231/237 is no tq monster down low and did feel pretty sluggish with the old setup below 4K rpm, but everything comes alive now as low as 2500 rpms. Power pours on much quicker and is available much faster than before.

The elec. cutout/ SLP 2OTL combo resolved my needs for quieting down the car for neighborhood driving. The 2OTL is very deep sounding and kinda reminds me of BUSCH series cars in terms of tone. At idle, it's very quiet. When you get on the gas, it's deep, mean and smooth.
When I open the cutouts, all hell breaks loose and the lope of the cam is very noticable (even at 1100rpm idle). At revs, it's menacing enough to make people look over in shock.

I captured some sound clips today using my cameraphone (I can't find my digicam!!!). I spliced the together in cutouts closed/open intervals of idle/revs/1st gear punches. It's a tiny 627kb .3GP file that needs hosting.
The clips do no justice whatsoever to the sound, but one can notice the difference in volume and audible lope with the cutouts closed/open comparo.

Please let me know if someone can host the file.

I'm hoping that's the case. The car definately feels stronger than before.
Even if the new setup doesn't net too much new peak power, I'm definately satisfied with the newfound usable power. The car is much funner to drive now.

ok, I converted that file to two different files and hosted them the first is with video in DIVX format. The second is the audio ripped out only and in a .wav file that everyone will be able to listen to. Enjoy...

www.cypressbendwest.com/fbody/avi video.avi You will need DIVX codec installed

Goes to show how important it is to let a motor BREATHE.

Blows my mind when people put heads/cam on stock exhaust. WHY!!!

I am curious to see how much you gained down low.

Thanks! Very much appreciated.
If anyone else wants the clip (with video), I'll send it to them- you can see how the tips look out the back.

I think a large part of your low-down power was the QTPs vs. the SLPs. Waaaaay back in the day when those came out we saw on dynos that they were the equivilent to shorty headers, curve wise.

I guess I can't ask too much from the telephone's microphone.

Yes, that could very well be part of the equation.

i'll bet most of your down low feeling is comming from the 4.11's. However, the car sounds completely badass!!!

4.11's (along with the drivetrain configuration) were a carry over item from the previous setup.
And, thanks!

FAST 90mm TB is sticking - 1500rpm idle. It's the TB for sure.

Haven't there been a lot of problems with these TB's? Any reason you didn't just get TPI's TB?

Its the intake/tb...They seem to make alot more low end throttle response. It happened on my car too,I swapped the LS6/PTB to the big LSX stuff and boom instant tq/throttle response.

Man, I thought the FAST 90/90 was supposed to help top end more than low end.

Maybe someday when I recover from the purchase of all the boltons, heads, cam, rearend, etc. I'll consider this. Until then, I will stay with the LS6 intake and ported TB (soon to come).
