Thumbs down March Pulley

This fricken thing. Thunder recommended going with it instead of the ASP so I did. Well now trying to take the GD thing off you cant use a normal harmonic balancer puller to remove it because they spaced the holes out to wide.

I either have to get a huge honking 3 arm puller or get the GM harmonic puller which is what they built it to be pulled off with and oh that only costs $111 to use one damn time.

NEVER BUY A MARCH PULLEY!!

I noticed that before I put it on. It is just something people need to consider... I am sure it will be a real PITA.

So the same puller I use for the ASP won't work on the March. There must be a puller reasonably priced somewhere I would think. The march pulley seems like a real nice piece and have not heard anything negative about it. Hope it all works out ok for you though. You can rent pullers to..

Edit: do you know the distance between the bolt holes?

Nope no standard puller fits.

From the center of the pulley the bolt holes are right at 3" from the center. I dont know how far apart the holes themselves are.

It is a really nice piece though

Exactly. You shouldn't let something like that completely turn you away from the product. Doing anything with the pulley is always a PITA...this just happens to be a PITA that requires a different puller.

Just seems like something that is a simple machining change would be the thing for them to do. They even said "Yeah we ran into the same thing on our test car, we had to go to GM and buy the puller that is expensive." you know what then dumbass tap the pulley at a different point so you can use a normal puller.

I know this isn't the best option but I ran into the same thing when I installed my cam. I had a buddy at a machine shop make me a tool like this one.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...k+holding+tool
Then I drilled 6 more holes in it. I drilled three to match up with the March pulley, and then three more to bolt the rental puller from Auto zone to it. It worked pretty good. I just wasted a few hours figuring it all out. Let me know if you have any questions. I should be able to help you save some time getting it to work.

Damn that aint a bad idea.

All I would need is a long bolt, a nut, a piece of steel maybe 1/8" thick a few washers and some time on the welder. Hell should cost about $10 and an hour or so of time.

Thanks for making me look at that, no complicated tool needed!!

No problem. That's what this site is all about. Just make sure you get some hardened stuff. That pulley takes some force to get off of there.
Good luck!

Sorry, I don't remember. I matched them up to the bolts that came in one of the puller kits and just bought them at Autozone. They were only $1.77 for 2 Grade 8 bolts.

The March pulley is a POFS. I installed one for a guy and the POS was throwing belts like crazy. Put an ASP on, and no more thrown belts.

Must have a higher edge on the ASP. I have a Katech adjustable tensioner because I was throwing belts, and now I have no problems. That has been a common problem long before March made their pulley.

I never had a belt problem at all. Then again I only had probably 300 miles with it on the car.

It has a lot to do with how many miles are on your tensioner I think.
