Default question on true duals?

why does everyone go with X-pipes? what about H-pipes? what are the differences/benefits of each (besides the look)

thanks

X-pipes make a bit more power. Has to do with the smoother pipe layout vs. the 90* h-pipe. H-pipes sometime fit easier since there is only a straight pipe connecting the two vs. both pipes having to "meet in the middle."

x pipes give better scavenging which equates to more power.

Haha, wow, this is a throwback to my Mustang days. As said before, an x-pipe flows better do to the fact that the angles are more natural than an h-pipes 90* angles. However, an h-pipe will be a bit more old school in its sound, deeper, more 'rumbly', whereas as an x-pipe is more raspy and exotic. Personally, I preferred h-pipes when I had my 'Stang but that said, I haven't heard an LS1 with an x-pipe that I didn't like. Either way the car will roar.

I don't remember his s/n on here, however his clips are on ls1sounds.com. A black Trans Am with Sweet Thunder mufflers, h-pipe, and custom side exit. Not a bad setup. However, I have to wonder between the H and the 90* bend of the side exhaust how much he is sacrificing.

My friend has an H pipe on his 79Z28 with 40 series Flows, and while it does have that great boomy, almost big block tone from a warmed over 350, I really can't see there being much of a difference between an X and H with the same car and mufflers. Most X pipe cars with no tail pipes make a very similar tone as the Camaro. I've seen tests showing an X to be slightly quieter than an H though.
