Default qtp leaking

installed lt's and catted y. headers are leaking at the clamp that connects them to the y. i've taken the clamp on and off a couple time all ready and the leak won't go away. is there and thing else i can try to stop the leak. my mechanic said i should weld it but i dont think that is a good idea.

Give people longer than 55 minutes, geez.

Try redoing the install. Seems to be the logical answer. FYI, I have QTP and they don't leak a bit.

What kind of clamp are you using? The band clamps that come with the set? The ones they sent me were too large for the HVM collectors on my headers. I went to a ricer shop and got some band clamps (the kind they use for turbo setups) that were a bit smaller in diameter and they worked great.

i just put mine on and i would not weld them if they had a leak, give it some time, try rotating the pipe a little and rotating the clamp a little, those clamps tend to really tighten where the bolt is, but be a little loose on the other side of the band.

and by the way, nice choice with the qtps, cats, and corsa. the best choice in my opinion. i also have a cutout in the i pipe. if you have some extra money wait for qtp to put out the SS cutout and get a qtec, worth the money, sounds very badass

I think welding the y-pipe to the headers is a bad idea. Try different clamps, try wrapping the joint with aluminum foil first, or live with the leak if you are not throwing codes.

Definately don't weld the collectors to the Y-pipe. Will cause future nightmares.

is it the passenger side? reason i ask is b/c the passenger side cat is alil tougher to get on the collector (in my experience anyhow) and maybe you didnt get it on all the way...there's a lil slot cut out of the cat that connects to the collecter so it can expand and whatnot...check taht gap and make sure that your collector goes past the end of it, if not there will be a lil hole where exhaust can get out...thats what happened to me anyhow, if its not the passenger side, still check it, b/c it could be the problem and you could fix it easier then you think, just push the cat on alill more...that way it will save you from welding it...this is all of course, if that is the problem...

mine had a leak but it was at the merge collector. fixed that problem with some welds. don't have any problems with the other clamps.

I had a flange welded on the drivers side collector and Y, used the band on the other side.

no welding the exhaust has to settle on your car for a bit before you think about welding

The foil is a kludge but may work well enough, depending on the band clamp you are using. Wrap the joint as if you are using duct tape, and put the clamp over it.

I also understand that some folks have used some type of sealant in the joint.

If you are not thowing codes, the leak may not be bad enough to worry about.

Good luck!
