I hear the 01 and 02 manifolds are just as good as aftermarket shorties. This sounds like a cheaper option. What would be needed to convert. I know the late model manifolds don't have egr, and I think the passenger side mates up to the y-pipe differently?

find a guy w/an 01-02 car that just swapped out to lt's and y-pipe, and get his complete setup for cheap. just make sure you have new bolts for the cats and stuff....i know i had to break mine off. also be prepared to ditch your EGR. which you should do anyhow

i'd still port the hell out of the primaries on the manifolds.

You need a front coolant line and rear coolant plugs. Fuel line disconnectors come in handy.

I think he means exhaust manifolds, not intake manifold.

Anyway, youll need an 01-02 Y pipe and a 10mm socket wrench.

you will need the ls6 intake manifold part number 88894339 , and also u would need to delete the EGR . Use GM pin 12558346 to plug the hole in the exhaust .

Sorry for the confusion, I was asking about EXHAUST manifolds. Sounds like to much of a problem, and I don't want to delete the egr(ca smog). I would love to do long tubes but don't want to risk it in calli. I guess I'll have to do shorties and gain ?10rwhp? Has anyone done shorties and been happy? Who makes the best shorty headers? Is it not possible to make at least a mid-length header that doesn't move the cats and/or is smog legal? I HATE CARB!!!

I think JBA makes a pretty good shorty header. MACs are midlenghts so they move the cats back. Sounds like you're stuck with shorties.

my long tubes (FLP) comes with high flow cats, and provisions for egr, and a.i.r....
i have block off plates on them now but when it comes time to smog all i have to do is swap in the cats, hook up the egr and the a.i.r, and thats it..... its not hard to find a smog shop the will over look them.... theres a few around my house....

good luck either way!

'00 manifolds are the same design as '01-'02 but have
the EGR port tapped (where '01-'02 have a blind boss).
So these would be a straighter swap presuming you
want to keep EGR.

So assuming I'm going to be doing shorties and not lt's...would it be worth it to save money on aftermarket headers and swap the 00' exhaust manifolds on. I know...longtubes period. I just don't have the time or money to spend $800 to swap back on the shorties if I get sent to the smog referee. (CA SMOG)

honestly i think its long tubes or nothing,
any kind of shorties are NOT worth the $$$. i m o

you $$ would be better spent on somthing that would actually MAKE POWER!!!
cam, n20, etc...

I plan on doing a cam by the end of the year. I am just trying to do all the supporting mods in the mean time. I still need an ls6 intake, but I am running out of mods to do and thought I should at least try shorties. I wouldn't feel right with a cam and stock exhaust manifolds. Is there really no gain going from 98 manifolds to aftermarket shorties?
