headers with or without cats?
now ive done many searches on this and still havent found exactly what i wanna know. OK, well i know i wanna get some headers for my car but not quite sure on say the Y-pipe w/ cats or ORY?? im kinda worried about emissions and passing inspection with the ORY pipe. and with the high flow cats and headers, will there be rasp? i know my car would sound MUCH better with the ORY but then again, passing inspection worries me.
also is it worth it to get the Mac mid-lengths or (what i want) the coated Pacesetters LT. help me with any info on this please. im trying to keep the costs as low as possible.
TIA

I am in no way an expert on headers/setups, but from general searching research this is my understanding: having cats will reduce the rasp sound, not increase it. I believe they cut down on the sound a little bit. Not entirely sure though, and would like to hear an experts take on this. I would also be curious on the hp difference between hi-flow cats/ORY/cutouts. Thanks for any help, and I do not mean to hijack your thread.

The horse power difference is around 5 to 7 at the wheels. This thread should help you out https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/291579-ory-catted-y.html

Also go with the Pacesetters, they are a really great header for the price. I was really satisfied with the ones that I bought from TSP. Iam pretty sure that TSP has the cheapest catted y, but I could be wrong.

dont get the mid-lengths, you will benefit much more from the LTs. Also, I have a catted y pipe with the loudmouth exhaust (known for its raspiness). The catted y pipe DOES reduce the raspiness and makes the car sound a lot better IMO. like the rest said, if you have emissions in your state, one of the first things they check for is cats so you would need them to pass.
