Default 2 Questions: Exhaust and Hood Scoop

1st: I have to have a hood scoop to protect the air cleaner from rain..it sucks A LOT OF AIR!!! I was wondering if hood scoop like this:
http://www.stylinconcepts.com/part.c...&CategoryID=25

hurt the air flow?
I know its a cheap one..I need it by next week..any suggestions on better hood scoops?

2nd: If I was to take the exaust and disconnect it from headers and let air just flow out of headers ( loud - yes ) would that hurt the car to drive for a few days?? Will it decrease the HP?? Because till i get new headers I dont feel like spending money on good bolts and thread lockers and new gaskets and current crap keeps getting lose from vibration..i already know how to fix it, but i need to know the answer to the question..

Thanks

the scoop is actually funcitonal because there is a hole in the hood and in the back of the scoop...but its CHEAP and LOOKS SHITTY AND WILL FLY OFF cuz it comes with double sided tape to mount it.........................

Why do you need a hood scoop to keep rain out of your air cleaner? What am I missing? BTW I wouldn't use locktight on header bolts, get some locking bolts.

Dude, what is wrong with your regular hood? What are you talking about when you say protect the air cleaner from rain? Oh, and about driving around without your stock headers... dude, not only will it be super loud, but yes it will make you lose performance. You will lose back pressure that your car needs. Even if it's just for a couple of days, it will be too loud and your car is going to have the SES light on and everything. What are you trying to do to your car anyways? Post some pictures of your car. I wanna see what this thing looks like.

What motor is in it? I thought the LS1 fit under the RX-7 hood without chopping it to pieces.

If you can make the hood scoop look like it is a part of the hood, then it would look good. I don't like ones that are taped or screwed in. Too fugly, but it is your car.

The exhaust should be fine open for a few days. Nothing wrong with a loud V8 RX-7

hole in the hood becuase of the air cleaner clearance? In your case, why not? Why not get something smaller than the one you proposed? The tape should be fine if its quality tape....wil a turbo II hood get you the clearance you need?

About the headers, i wouldnt put lock tight on the pipes. Instead, opt now for a set of lockable bolts (grade 8?) and some steel clamps for the exhaust and see wat happens until you get th new exhaust, which then you can reuse the bolts and possibly the clamps... personally, oi wouldnt run the open headers, just to many varialbe that could go wrong....you'll loss power for sure and you'll be a beacon for tickets....

two words: ghetto rice.

get a hood that will fit the motor, don't get a ghetto scoop that you can tape on when it rains. if you don't have wipers, don't drive the car when it rains. you're askin for a ticket right there. not to mention you shouldn't be able to get the car inspected that way.

who said im going to be inspecting it?

Car is originally turbo and unfortunately the hood scoop didnt clear

so far thread lockers holding it (3 days so far) so we'll see how long they last..i wont replace them until thy fall off again ( i hope not )

btw obzidian where can i get those lockable grade 8 bolts?

cyphur_traq i know i see my car is being turned into rice..I probably will get a good for it later (carbon fiber) so it'll look like riced out rx7. And Ill get soem quiet high flow mufflers (borla?) so that itll be a lil quiter and som dum kids will thinks its just a riced out 7. should be fun Or ill just get the hood and whole new paint job

grade 8 bolts?

here you go

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&vid=3&pcid=54

personally, a carbon fiber hood would be sweet!!!!! that car must weight close to nothing so 300hp is felt alot more than in my Z....i would get the motor runing strong, get a hood (i wouldnt waste any hard earned cash on a chessy looking hood scoop though), wheels, paint, and some other misc and take advantage of the sleep look...

good luck...
