The black coating is high temp paint. Thats what uncoated headers come w/. Why did you go w/ uncoated headers?

personally even if you can't afford stainless steel headers, i would have still gone with coated headers. good luck with those headers tho...hope your car doesn't see rain or salt or any road grime.

if you want them to last any length of time i'd have them coated before you put them on. they still wont last forever but they will last you MUCH longer.

If you want them to last. Spend a little time & paint them. Yes paint them, Sand that black paint down with 320 grit sand paper, The whole thing. Sand every little crack & crevis then hang them in a tree out side on a not so windy day. Clean then with a solvent like rubbing alcohol, Let that dry, It'll dry quick. get some high temp paint in a can, put a coat on let dry for about 20 or 30 minutes, another coat, another 30, another coat. Put 4 or 5 coats on them. let dry a day or two. put'm on. The best part is you can paint them in any color you want. Black or red, silver. The paint will hold the heat, & no one will have headers like yours.
I put base coat/clear coat like I spray on the out side of a car, on a engine block, it never flaked.

ceramic coated headers are usually silver or have a polished look to them

Hey (JRracing 24, would you reccomend painting over ceramic coating? I have coated LT's waiting to go on my car and had toyed with the idea of painting over the coating like you mentioned above. Do you or anyone think this will increase the life of the header?

I think that if the coating still looks good, it'd be a waste of a perfectly shiney header set
