Default High Idle (Throttle Body)

I ended up buying a throttle body that already had a hole drilled in the plate to raise the idle for a cam but I don't have a cam yet. This has since thrown a trouble code of the idle being too high. Is there anyway to adjust the idle to fix it?

If you can find the idle set screw on the side of the throttle body you can try lowering it that way. If you look at it you should be able to see what I mean. You may not be able to get it lowered much, but I'm surprised it set a light. I mean, people install cams and raise the idle mechanically like that and don't get high idle lights.

Remove the TB blade from the TB. It's just a couple of torx bits to remove the blade, and you have to pull the whole TB back off to get the blade to slide out.

Then, use some JB Weld to cover over the enlarged hole. Once the JB dries, sand it down to be flush with the rest of the TB blade, then drill a new hole in the original stock size. The stock TB blade hole size is 5/32".

Hope that helps.

I've heard some horror stories about putting JB weld anywhere near it. If that stuff got into the motor it would cause a shitstorm. You don't think that I can adjust the idle mechanically like the other guy said above? ^^^ I'd rather just sell it and return it to stock if I can't.

I used JB Weld for years on my TB blade while trying different hole sizes, never had a problem. It should never come out unless you don't mix the two parts correctly and it doesn't harden properly.

Depending on how big the hole is, your only choices might be to either patch the hole or get a different TB blade. You can try messing with the set screw, but that may not work if the hole is signifigantly larger than stock.

PS. If you still have your stock TB, just swap the blade over from your stock one to the new one.

So you already sent your stock one in as a core? If you still have the stock one just swap over the TB blade. Real easy.

If it were me, I'd either get a different TB blade (you can pick up used stock LS1 TBs for $50-100 if you watch the sales) or patch the hole and re-drill to stock 5/32" size. I was never worried about using JB weld, it worked great for me. Gotta go with whatever makes you comfortable though.

Do you think the stock TB plate would kinda of displace the whole idea of the ported/polished tb? Bo white does wonders to that blade.

EDIT: I don't think I can switch out the TB plates now either because it is all smooth on the ported one and the bolts are even flush.

If you want I can "do wonders" to a stock blade I have here and ship it to ya and just put the drilled one in the box with the stock TB.

Not to hijack, but is it a pain to mess with the idle screw? My car idles at 12-1400 rpms half the time, whereas sometimes it'll idle lower than 1000. I REALLY need to fix this because IMO it's a waste of gas plus it sounds like **** idling that high and it's been driving me nuts for a long time.

That sounds like you need to replace your IAC. Usually there should be only 1 full round of thread showing on the screw under the bell crank unless you have flipped the screw and then it needs to be bottomed out and then readjusted for proper idle.

When you get spare time, any way you could PM me with more detail about that? I'm tech-stupid still, but would love to figure out this problem. Thanks.

The polish that Bo does on the blade doesn't increase performance...its the badass port job he does that helps you so much

I would think any stock blade would have worked, but I'm sure you wanted it to look good as well.

And yea....did it help?
