Default Advice on air filter

Is it worth buying a K & N filter? Ive read you dont gain any HP and the only advantage is you can clean and reuse.

Longterm debate. The first thing I did to mine was a K&N. The air flow is better than the paper stock filter so it makes sense it would give you some sort of gain, but, I'd say it's not worth the 10 hp gain some people say it gives ... IMHO it gave me a little hp I could seem to slightly feel ... maybe 3-5 hp. I think it's worth the hp and that's pretty reasonably priced hp. Just my opinion.

Dyno results have shown that the LS1 doesn't really gain much if any HP from the K&N Filter. I bought it because it will last a lifetime-not because it will make me faster.

In the beginning I had a K&N...switched to a Holley PS for a while.....now all I have used are Fram paper filters for the last two years. Never have seen any noticeable difference in dyno's or track et's/trap speeds between the three. For me, cleaning the filters got old quick. Just my observations and opinions.

I'm just sticking with the paper filter. If I had another clear lid, I'd get a K&N, but that'd be about the only reason. It looked good on my 02 Z-28 that way, but I doubt I'll put one on my '01.

Believe it or not, I bought mine for the increase in mileage. I've picked up an MPG or two on both of the cars in which I have installed K&N's. Right now I'm having to drive a lot of highway miles (hopefully not much longer) so it really adds up for me. Having seen and experienced the effects of the K&N, I don't think I'd buy another unless I was just spending money for the helluvit. However on a high horsepower car (heads/cam AT LEAST) where every little restriction counts, you'd better believe I'd have one.

I used to use a K&N on my mustang, but I haven't put one on my LS1. I heard patman say that his oil analysis shows that the K&N doesn't clean worth a crap. If it doesn't clean well or show any discernable gains on the dyno, why put one on?

I have a K&N and it looks killer along with my clear lid . Even if it doesnt add serious h.p. to your car, how can you go wrong with a lifetime warrany?
