Default Gonna start longtube install this weekend

Well guys im picking up my Pacesetter Longtubes, Pacesetter ORY and the 02 extensions tomorrow, and im gonna get started on them sat night, or sunday morning. I just wanted to know if theres anything i should be looking for or any special things i need to do or i should do. Im not doing them by myself either, my buddy is helping me who just longtubes on his LT1, so i dont know if there is a huge difference between LS1's or Lt1's as far as headers installs. Well thanks in advance guys, i will post some pics up after i pick the headers and everything up tomorrow.. Take car

if your friend managed to fit long tubes into an lt1, he should have no problem with your ls1. Good luck

DO not remove the steeing shaft. Here is how I got around it. there is very minimal clearence issues on both sides. Driver side; lift the engine up about 3/4 of an inch I placed a block of wood on my oil pan and jacked just enough to fit the header up in there. Pass side; remove the large heat sheild on the floorboard. when I was putting mine on we just kept jacking my car up....up....up and the pass would not fit on, removed the heat sheild and the header slipped up no problem. get the car high engough. My front wheels were about 2 feet off the ground, I could slide a 5 gallon pail under the front wheels. take your time and be patient. remove the pass side coilpacks altogether, don't just throw them on the manifold, unclip the big white clip and set them aside.

don't forget to plug the coolant temp sensor back in. Yak has the right idea, undo the motor mount bolt (one side at a time) and lift/roll the engine. makes cake of the install

I'm doing mine right now i got the pass side in with no problem. On the driverside the engine is jacked up but I cant get the header in there. Its hitting the body on the back side i figure if I take the steering shaft out I could get it. any ideas

takin the shaft out worked for me. jus make sure the wheel does not move while its out. also make sure the wheels do the same. header slid right in w/o haveing to touch the mounts. tomorrow is the passenger side it looks like a pain. or does it just look like it with the ac stuff there?

My Pacesetters went in very easily. All I removed were the coil backs, AIR tubes, and starter. The driver side was cake. I didnt need to take off the steering shaft or cut the block or k-member. The passenger side was more difficult. Its like a puzzle piece and you have to get the header oriented perfectly to get it to slide in. Finding this orientation took me about 30 minutes, but once it was in it kept trying to fall out, strange. Two people will definitly make it a lot easier.

Get the car as high in the air as you can. We used a jack with at least 18" of lift. We didn't have to remove the steering shaft or coils for hitmeoff's car. We installed pacesetters, ORY, and true duals.
Get an O2 sensor socket to get them off.

my passenger side was no problem, and i didn't take the coils off (although it could make things a little easier) you just have to get the angle right. the drivers side was alittle harder. i undid the motor mount jacked the motor up. the only problem i had was that my headers kept getting caught on my drain plug, but i couldn't see it from where i was sitting. once i saw that and adjusted the angle they went right up. Also, you might want to consider going to autozone and getting some poly motor mounts. they are MUCH easier to install with your headers off, and they will keep your y pipe from banging. i wish someone would have told me that before i did my install.

dont take anything out just be patiant they go in like slidin in some u know what, just make sure u lube up the old exhaust bolts where the cats mount to the manifold they are a bit-h to get broke loose i use wd 40 and lots of it and a good breaker bar. the headers litterally go right in on the pass side the drivers side i had to turn and twist a little lube the drivers side header up with some grease or oil if u ding them they will rust. good luck
