Default TSP rumbler catbacks

Need a new catback since my black rectangular tips on my Z are rusting. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Are the TSP rumbler catbacks comparable to hooker, magnaflow, or LMs? They appear to be fairly inexpensive. Is it because they're not stainless, more restrictive, or sound like ****?

more flow, but not stainless, thats where the savings are coming from, hooker, i believe has one of the best flowing mufflers out there and the sound is very mellow for how much it flows. i wish they offered it in a stainless version though!

rumbler is inexpensive because it is NOT stainless steel but its still a great exhaust. It is loud though with an interior resonance around 1800-2000rpm if you have stock manifolds and cats. I hear the rumbler is rediculious loud with LT headers and ORY so just be aware if you future plans include no cats and headers. no way its restrictive either its striaght through 3" bullet style muffler. Judging sound is tough though.. everyone has their preferences. Me personally I like how mine sounds but again I'm not all that pickey with exhausts. I wanted low buck good and loud performance and that is what the rumbler does very well.

The rumbler is an excellent flowing exhaust. It's cheap because it's aluminized steal(no big deal) and it uses the dynomax muffler which is like $35. I think it's a great value at $199.

I love mine too! The sound is deep at idle, and it screems at WOT. Also the TSP will shave a few pounds off the car. You won't be disapointed especially with the price. I painted mine black before the install and it looks awsome.

Any rasp? If you've heard one with headers, no cats, and loud mouth you know what im talking about. That was my setup on the '99 ss and the rasp made it embarrassing to drive when accelerating at part throttle, (wot sounds good though).

I was looking to spray it with some type of rust protection (hopefully black) to help prevent the inevitable. I live in the south and it's quite humid.

How long have you had them? Any rust so far? What type of climate are you in?

I gotta believe they hold up pretty well if a "Texas"(humid climate) speed shop is selling it.

It already comes aluminized so you don't have to spray it. I've seen aluminized mufflers last years with no rust.

I was just hoping some protectant might add another layer of protection.

It not only will help to protect it, but it looks much better under the vehicle. It is a lot less noticible being all black. I have seen them unpainted on cars and you can see it clearly under the car. To answer your other question I am in NJ, but my car never sees the rain, or snow, and it is garaged always, so I am sure it will last as long as I own it.

The Rumbler is very loud, so be aware of that if you get it... I like it, but it can get tiring over long distances with the RPMs hovering in the 1800-2000 rpm range.

Thanks for the info....I'm sold. I'm going to paint it with some type of protectant.

Holla if you know of any rust protectant products that might work well on aluminized steel.......

I just lightly sanded it, then wiped it down with brake cleaner. I used flat black high temp. barbecue paint from Home Depot. It has held up nice so far with no flaking, peeling, or bubling.

If you wanted the metal look, you could always clear-coat it. And if that clear ever got dirty or you wanted to make sure of no rusting, take some paint thinner and take the clear off, and re-apply.

I painted mine too with some high temp black by lightly sanding and wiping it down with a little brake clean. I live in chicago and drive my car through the winters. thus far through 1 winter its got a little bit of surface rust on a couple welds and thats it. I'm sure it will rust to pieces eventually but it will take soo many years even in the overkill road salting in the city I'm not worried. I'll probably change exhaust before it gets that bad anyhow.

the tailpipes are 2.5" which kind of bugs me, I may change it to 3" if I have excess cash and I am bored one day. I love my TSP Rumbler, it shuts up a lot of imports which then brings a smile to my face.
