SLP Center Exhaust

SLP Center Exhaust
My SS is completely stock with the factory SLP exhaust / Center exhaust outlets - however I am not crazy about the tone...........and I want to keep my center outlets. My question - what muffler should I go with to to achieve a better tone, possibly increase performance?
Now - I do plan on putting headers and a Y pipe on over the winter, do you think I should wait as the car should get louder once that is completed?
Any ideas?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I have the center mount exhaust on my SS... I wanted something a little more aggressive too. I bought a Spintech splitcase (direct F-body replacement) muffler and had it welded on. It sounds incredible.... and it flows really well too. I do have Jethot LTs and ORY... cutout open it dynoed 399rwhp with my mods and only lost 14rwhp through the Spintech, 385rwhp. Not too bad.
Friend of mine lost something rediculous like 30rwhp through a Flowmaster, they dont call them blowmasters for nothing. *amongst many other things too*
I bought the Spintech directly from Spintech for something like $135 shipped. Then had a shop weld it on for $40.

didn't have the CME Stock, so when I ordered it, it came w/a different muffler
than stock which increased sound. I also have headers and hi-flow cats. To
each his own ideas on sound/noise, but I'd rather have sound out the back
instead of noise in the car. You can hear my pipes amile away when I get on
it. It aggravates me listening to a Ricer make a bunch of noise thinking he's
got something under the hood "WHEN HE COULDA HAD V-8"!!

Absolutely better sounding then the stock SLP I had on there, and yes a tad louder but not annoyingly loud..... I love it. Ive always been a big fan of Spintech mufflers.. so when I realized they had a splitcase direct replacement for the F-bodies I couldnt resist. With the CME it had to be a direct replacement... unlike most F-bodies with the dual tips.
Heres the website.. check it out.. theyre muffler design is like no other and it works very well. You can just call them up and order direct.

*edit*
Oh yeah.. since we (our SLP cars) started with 3" from the SLP factory option there really is no reason to go for a full catback system... whatever you do just pick a good muffler and have it welded on.

Knock the bricks out of the cats and the tone will
really improve. Or so I've heard Some
complain about rasp but I've blended all of the
sharps I could find in the manifolds & cats so I
have a pretty nice exhaust note.
I found that when I sanded / polished the inside
of the tips that it cut down on the ringing tone.
Seemed like the rough cast surface was too good at
picking up acoustical energy and resonating the
"bells".
