Default 02 sims a must?

i'm putting on off road pipes that simply replace my stock cats. Is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to get sims or use a program to get rid of the light? I mean does it effect the cars performance or is it just annoying to see the light on all the time? Several people have told me several different answers.

I would put on sims or edit them with hptuner or edit. The car will run alittle richer w/ out cats.

If you have access to a tuning program, just delete the codes. You won't notice any type of performance downgrade. You'll just get the SES light.

the light is nothing more than an annoyance to tell you your cats (or lack thereof) are not functioning properly. if you don't mind the light, or have access to a tuning program, don't worry about getting the sims.
