Spark plug Emergency!!! Help!!
Hey yall:
Wondering if the AC-Delco "Rapidfire" is a good plug- I work at a local Autozone, so I know that Bosch+4 and Bosch+2 fire WAY TO HOT and burn the plug (a fellow co-worker put them in his 2000 TA and took them out 4 months later-charred adn smoked to all hell). is teh term "Rapidfire" synonymous with too much spark? I want to get the Platinums, but they are onyl available at the dealership- at $8.99 a plug! Im not a cheapskate and ill get them if u guys reccomend, but i was wondering if the rapidfires were a descent plug. Im getting them tomorrow, so input would be helpful!
Also, i was wondering the easiest way to get the plgus out of the LS1... my firend just did his and is still recooperating from the rashes he sustained.... again-help would be appreciated!
PS. If u have any personal input on good/bad plugs, please add it to this thread-Would make a good reference chart for my site.
Thanks!

I run tr55's now. Never had a problem with the Bosh +4's...other than the price.
For the spark plug replacement...I find it really easy to do if you remove the passenger side coil pack rack. Especially #8.
Some change #8 out from the bottom. I have had zero luck getting to it from the bottom but hey....I'm mildly retarded.

I too paid a little over $1 for each plug. They are good plugs at a great price. If you plan on running spray in your engine, then I would go with the NGK TR6. It is colder burning than the TR55.

I have even heard a few parts people say that NGK is more what you would put on an import, not a high performance V8. I think I'm going to try something else next time just to see what does better, even if they cost a dollar more. I spend more $$ on gas in 2 days than I would on plugs anyway.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys:
Just to let you know, I got the eigth plug out by usinga ratcheting wrench and about 2 inches of clearance, slip my arm past the tranny, up by the trhough the srut towers adn one hand through the exhaust manifold closest to plug #8. For the other 7, took off the EGR valves/tubes? and put them to the side- was relatively easy consiering I had a friend w/ LT1 knowledge (a hellhole comapred to LS1 plugs) and two hours to kill.
And a little sidenote: found out that the "rapidfires" came out in 95' and were prclaimed to be the best thing to come out of GM in a long itme: "best plug" etc. Was put in the 95' ZR1 corvettes w/ that nasty LT5 makin 405 in 95.... good god.
And for a side note- NGK and Denso are usually for imports: not sure if good for domestic, not putting them down. But they are recommended (at my store) for imported vehicles. Also, the iridium plugs (that sell for $7.99 a piece at the Zone) do last longer, but I was told they're not worth the money.
So all in all, the Rapdfires were my best bet-smooth idle and a substantial change in throttleresponse. Perhaps that because the previous ones were gapped at anything from .065 to .079 (supposed to be .060) and theyre new plugs- but ill let you be the judge.
BTW: Autozone having a sale on that new Mobil 1 5000 and 7500 synthetic and a free fram filter for $10.00. Id get AC Delco though.

You know whats funny, I called NGK to ask them a couple questions about there plugs. I brought up ac-delco plugs and he told me that NGK maked Delcos plugs. Don't know if its true but thats what one of the guys i spoke to from NGK said.

AC-Delco is owned by General Motors. If NGK is making that claim- they are sorely mistaken. NGK make plugs wires and oxygen sensors: nto oil filters, tool kits, and other misc. hard parts for GM vehicles specifically. I checked NGK's website, and they make plugs comparble to Autolite, Champion (horrible) and others- but they dont make AC Delco plugs.

I just did a little bit of a google search and found nothing but it seems like delco makes there own plugs. Don't know why the guy at ngk said what he did. Eh whatever

There are pros and cons to each brand, but but I know Darrell Russell ran NGKs in his Alcohol Dragster for years before he started driving Top Fuel so they can't be all bad. They did get the plugs for free, but his brother Chris wouldn't have used them if they weren't any good free or not.
