Default ls6 intake

i have a 99 trans am if i put the ls6 intake manifold on my car will it effect anything because people have told me i have to port my heads.

Well those people are dumbasses then. The LS6 intake is a direct swap on the LS1 motor. The only thing you need is coolant plugs for the heads and a coolant crossover pipe that goes under the TB and connects from the driver to passenger head. These pieces I mentioned are less than $50 total.
Also there's a really good install writeup on the intake...search for JMX's install guide.

Should gain anywhere from 15-20 rwhp?

Not on a stock motor. If you plan to go internal later you will want to have the LS6 on there. I installed an LS6 intake manifold and SLP underdrive pulley on my cam only auto and gained 43 rwhp.

Stock or bolt ons only you'll probably only see 10-15 rwhp, if I had to guess..
