Default LS1 to LS6 intake............

I'm gonna be installing my LS6 intake and was wondering what else I needed besides the intake. I already have the front crossover pipes but when I went to order the rear plugs under the GM part number on LS1howtos.com, the dealer said they dont have that part number. Whar exactly are the rear plugs for?? What do they plug?

thanks

they plug the coolant lines on the back of the heads, and you do have to run them or youll have one hell of a coolant leak

Yeah, I cant find them either. I see poeple occasionally offer kits which supposedly include all the parts. This is what is needed (for the water crossover pipe retrofit):
Qty PN Description
2 12561089 Studs, for front water pipe
1 12578838 pipe, water crossover
4 12551933 O ring (although two of them might have been included with the pipe)
2 12562788 Cover, Eng Cool Air Bleed Pipe
2 11514008 Bolt (for above cover, it is simply an M6x1x30 bolt)

The last two items are hard to find under GM part numbers. Th ebolts you can get anywhere, but the cover is a different story. You can buy another pipe, like he did, but I think rather than stick a bolt in, I'd remove the rubber hose and get someone to weld up the pipe.

I'm also wondering if it is OK to just close the vents up, I mean, they were designed for a reason, right?

Let me know if you find any.

Why dont you just cut the blocks off your stock pipe and plug the holes with some permatex and a screw? It's hillbilly but it will work, as long as the threads of the screw are large enough to cut into it and grab. Or, you could have some place that can weld aluminum (places that repair radiators can do this) weld the little holes shut.

Thats works too I didn't think of that as I pieced my block together and don't have that stock tubing. And whats even better is that Y2K SS can cut the other two off and send them to me cuz he's a cool guy an all

I just bought some plugs about a month ago under this part # 12563325, but it looks like it may have changed again to 12570678.

So what you guys are saying is that when you do the conversion, there are pipes in the back that aren't needed or just aren't there for the LS6? Thought it was a direct replacement. Is it really that much of a PITA?? I know there are a lot of guys here who did the conversion, what gives???

Whoa, calm down cowboy. It's 2 super easy to get to bolts, no big deal. You just need to change out the coolant lines. There is a crossover in the front, 2 plugs in the rear. Piece of cake.

Yup, both of those numbers are good at gmpartsdirect.com

Y2KSS, I've also heard of some people grinding away some of the ribs on the under side of the LS6 intake to allow the stock tubing to fit, but I wouldn;t recommend that.

Well the first number changes to the second number when you add it to your basket. That's why I think the number has changed again.

Trust me, when you see what you need to do, you won't believe how easy it is. This is the easiest part. It will take you literally 3 minutes. Unbolt old coolant line, rebolt new line on front and bolt in two plugs in the rear where the old line connected.

Did the plugs come with the orings installed like they do with the front pipe, or did you have to order them seperately?

Thanks a lot guys I appreciate the replys. I jus tlike to be prepared before I dive into something. When I built my stroker, I cracked the waterpump retainer ($1.00) and it set me back 2 weeks. Hated it. Anyway I got good news, actually real good news. The guy I bought the LS6 intake from sent me the brand new coolant line and 2 brand new plugs. 2xLS1 is right, the part number on this is GM# 12563325. Someone should let the dude who does the LS1hostos know.

But I was just curious about the whole block off thing in the first place. Is it just a choice or the options on the LS6 dont allow for the old lines??

The plugs and coolant pipe come with the o-ring seals.

With the flat bottom on the LS6 intake, there is not room for the old style coolant tube to run under it. Also, be sure and remove the 2 plastic clips that attach the knock sensor harness to the old coolant tube. just unwrap the tape and toss them. If left on, they can keep the LS6 intake fron sitting flush on the heads.
