Default Dumps vs Tail Pipes

Other than noise what performance gain or loss is it with Tail pipes? My friend that was in Germany said that his 99 GT would not see 150 MPH with dumps but it would with Tail pipes. What does this mean?

It really depends on what kind of dumps you are talking about. If you dump right after the headers, yes, chances are you will see a performance loss due to a big drop in backpressure. If you are dumping right at the axle, however, I don't think that you'll have a significant change in performance at all.

One of the biggest advantages with dumping before the axle is weight savings. Depending on the type of piping and muffler, you can save 20-30 lbs! So, by saving $100 or so by NOT getting pipes, you also get a faster car under accelleration!!
