Default Over heating? Help please.

I have a 422cuin iron blockwith an a4 and a 3500 stall. I installed a lt1 radiator with a 1.25 inch thick core that's 1/4 inch thicker than stock. Fans are working, pcm is set to 160 turn on, I do have a whisper cold air duct it does block the radiator but I don't have the bottom that goes down to the spoiler, I have an asp under drive pulley but it idles at 950 rpm. I have installed a restricter plate with a 7/8 hole in it no t-stat.
The car runs cool but if I don't keep it moving 30 to 40 mph it will over heat every time. It could get up to check gauges hot but 1 pass on the highway and right back down to 210. I ordered a 160 t-stat and will install it next week. I am also considering an electric water pump. any ideas will be help full.
Thanks Rich

Are your fans (stock?) blowing in the right direction?

Hi Folks
the fan kick off at 30 or 40 mph - your problem sounds like a fan problem. as pointed out above, check the fans and which way they working. They should be pulling air.

If that doesn't work is your antifreeze mixed 50/50? Too much water and it will get warm on ya. Also I wouldn't trust the factory gauge. Check the temp seperately

tHANKS gUY'S I will look into that. the fans are stock. The coolant is brand new dex cool 50/50 mix. The guage reads 210 from 200 to to 230 actual temp per the scantool. It is most definatly getting too hot. Thanks Again Rich.

So you are saying you have no t-stat? I saw where you ordered one. This could be also the problem.

Put the new t-stat in and buy an electric pump..
