Default Oil Pressure Gauge Question

1. When I start my car, the gauge will be at 0 for 1/100th of a second and then jump to normal cold start pressure. Just to clarify my car does not run or idle at 0, its just at 0 until the engine picks up speed, and settles to idle speed. Oil pressure while operating is just as expected, 55-60 on a cold start, 40-45 under normal crusing, and 60-65 when WOT.

2. When I shut the car off the oil gauge settles at the pressure it was last at. After driving it this morning it came to rest at 43 psi. When I turn on the ignition the gauge resets itself to 0, and when I start the car

Is this normal operation? I was thinking that maybe I need to check the gauge, and or replace the sending unit. If I were to verify oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, how would I do this?

Thanks

This is normal as far as I know. Mine hesitates to bring oil pressure and then it is normal.
