Default new edelbrock headers n ypipe arived. some questions. pics too.

het guys my new edelbrock headers arrived today. they have no emissions on them and i need to put the 02 bungs in place and have them welded. does anyone know where i should place the 02 bungs? i was thinking possibly the collector.

Also edelbrock included their gaskets should i use them?

a final note is that the headers came with bolts and washers and it appears to be some type of bent piece of steel to go along with every bolt so they dont back out. should i use these too?

Thanks guys.
Louie

Also i have some pics of the headers and of the collectors and eveything that i will get up for you guys as soon as i find the cable to go from my camera to my pc.

Put the bungs on the inside of the collectors. That's where it is on headers that come w/ the bungs prewelded. As for gaskets my stock ones are holding up fine (they had about 45K on them when I put the headers on). If the gaskets are paper don't use them. All I've heard is that the paper ones suck.

ok,well i cant find that damn cord but i will get them up so others can see. the headers are really nice. i am thus far extremely happy with them. especially for being 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 stepped headers and only 400 bux shipped. i have already gotten the slip fit collector on there without a single problem and it went on nice. all the welds are nice and on the inside of the collector they even grinded the welds smooth. the ypipe is nothing special but by no means is it a piece of chit.

i cant wait to get the headers on and running. along with my nx kit that is sitting right next to them.

so all that i am going to do is have the collectors drilled and the o2 bungs welded in place on the inside of the collector.

i am not going to use the AIR or EGR so that is all that i need right. just an 02 bun gon each header?

Thanks
Louie

PS also if it is suggested i can just go ahead and get brand new GM header gaskets. i will get pics of the edelbrock ones and then i will take opinions. i just dont want LEAKS!

Thanks

GM header gaskets are good. Go ahead and use them.

Where did you buy these for $400 shipped? Did that include the Y-pipe?

Thanks

If you can get new gaskets, go ahead. The GM pieces use what is called "dead aluminum" (my question is, was it ever alive?). When the stock manifolds are bolted on, it compresses the soft aluminum. Due to VERY minor irregularities in the flange, some of the gasket is compressed more than other parts. When you put on your new headers, the flanges will have different irregularities (not to the naked eye, though). Because some parts of the gasket are already compressed, you could get leaks.

Mind you, I've never heard of it, but it is possible.

i purchased the headers from byunspeed for 400 shipped. and then the y pipe for another 105 shipped. for 505 shipped i am extremely happy so far wit them. they loko great. the collectors fit very well. and they are stepped headers which i think will work well with nitrous and allow me to go larger displacement and stay with the same headers.

they're MLS gaskets....MLS= Multi Layer Steel

Percy's is the only manufacture that I know of that makes dead soft aluminum header gaskets for LS based engines

those are nice. do they have the TiTech coating? if that is consistent quality, which i am sure it is, they might become the top ls1 header company

yeah it has the ti tech coating. i hope that by me taking a chance with these headers that there is a big payoff. i am hoping for them to work out well and make good power.
for 400 bux i dont think they can get beat if all goes well. not to mention the free shipping i got from byunspeed.com. they are good people over there too. highly suggested.

i am going to hopefully get my car dynod tomorrow and then i will again after the headers and y pipe. they will be the only changes. well other than ngk tr6s and th nitrous i use afterwards also.

on Monday i am going to UTI. my buddy goes to school there and is going to hook me up with the dynojet so i can get a baseline dyno run with just the lid and catback.

then i will put the headers on and y pipe, along with ngk TR6s. once this is done i will get it dynod again to see the gains.

i keep everyone updated as i go.

Thanks
Louie

yup, i got the 02s welded late last week. and i also just got back from UTI the car dynod 320 hp and 319 torque. i will try to get a graph up. the header install with ypipe should begin tonight. i will try to get pics of the process. also there will most likely be a ppost dyno within a week or two. hopefully at UTI again.

Thanks
