Question FTRA horror stories?

I'm thinking about purchasing the FTRA and was wondering if anybody knew of any factual horror stories about what it did to their car. I've heard stories of sucking up water, and about overheating the ls1. Anybody confirm these, or a more knowledgeable person tell me that the FTRA does nothing bad to the car? All help is appreciated. Basically, anybody that has any information about the FTRA, good or bad, I'd like to see it. Thanks

I've had it on my car for about 3 years now. In traffic with the AC/T-Tops off in Florida summers I ran a little hotter, never overheated though. Initially I bought a fan switch - later reprogrammed my fans. Never sucked up any water even during heavy rains. If you expect to hit deep puddles at high speeds you can always remove the seal in front of the airbox and install the block off plate.

how much hotter? my temp guage usually stays just shy of 210. where does yours sit when it runs a little hotter? and im assuming you had your AC on w/ the ttops off? did the reprogramming the fans help w/ the temp?

Your temp gauge is basically an idiot light that either reads cold, operating temp or overheating. Only the 98's are actually accurate.

Fan reprogramming really helps, the stock fans just don't come on early enough to keep the engine cool. Do remember that the LS1 is most efficient at temps around 200*.

Don't worry about it, just get it. It's cheap and as far as I am concerned has no major downfalls. When I put my SLP CAI on my temps would sometimes be a few degrees higher but nothing to worry about. Just don't go flying through standing water and you won't have anything at all to worry about there, either.

That was with the AC off and before I had a fan switch/reprogrammed the fans. You'll run a little hotter because it blocks part of the radiator, but nothing to worry about.

I don't have any problems with it. I've had it for about 6 months and have driven in some heavy FL down pours and have had no water sucked up.

Yeah, I doubted the rain would affect it much, especially since it also has the blockoff piece. My new fear is the engine overheating..

I ended up sucking up water...was going through 4" of water, and the filter was soaked. Luckily, the engine didn't get enough to hydrolock, but the FTRA went away immediately.

I have FTRA and have driven in the rain many times.... heavy rain.... I have never seen any water inside of the system, and I religously check it.

And try to use common sense when you can... avoid any kind of standing water
