Default lid and catback

alright i dont have a dyno graph but i jsut wnated to share my friends good fortune...he got a baseline dyno of 287rwh completely stock even a paper airfilter....then he put a lid, k&n and a catback on and it dynoed 330 rwh???? isnt that a crazy gain....43 rear wheel from a catback and a lid??? it was on the same dyno both times its an 02 z28 a4

I'm guessing your friend didn't get a chance to run the car at the track when it was stock. That would be more accurate.

no he hasnt ran it at the track.....and yes i would guess weather had a big part of it...but my gosh thats a big difference

People, almost every dyno has SAE (or maybe STP) correction factors built in. You don't dyno lower because it is hot.

That is a large gain for the mods, but the 330 is exactly I would expect with the 287 being kinda low for a newer model, even an A4.

so the sae correction would compensate for the weather? i knew it corrected it i just didnt know for what.....anyways.....43hp gain is awsome.....hes getting all the other bolt ons put on now....he gettin lt's and pulley now then hes gettin tuned....

Yes, the SAE correction factor takes all pertinent variables into account. So, since it was done on the dyno it should be a relatively accurate 43 hp gain, assuming there wasn't a spike taken as the highest number or something similer to that....

no nothing else has been done....i dont know i think it just must have been really choked before and now its breathin free...because its not like 330 is a crazy number for an 02 camaro its jsut that is dynoed 287 originally....

How many miles were on it when it was first dynoed? Green motors will dyno less than broken in motors.

That is a huge assumption. There are examples out there with <1,000 miles and LS1's have a relatively long break in period, so you never know if it's broken in or not.

Thats jsut lucky, lol. My 02 Had 55k miles of street driving and SOME highway within 2 years. Def. got stronger with age though.
