Default Flowmaster 40 series

Anybody running a Flowmaster 40 series muffler? I am about to incorporate 2 of them on a true dual set up. Its going to run 2 hi-flow cats, the mufflers, and its going to be a side exaust right in front of the rear tires. Anybody running anything similar??? If so hows it sound?

I haven't seen anyone do that, but those are pretty big to be mounting under the car.
I bet it sounds pretty good however.

You might wanna do some looking instead of crossing your fingers, bubba. I was thinking of the same thing with a pair of Super 40s, but there just isn't any room at all under the car, especially for side exit. Now, if you wanted to try to squeeze them in the back just before the tailpipes, that may be a viable option, but I'm not thinking that would work, either.

Just watchin out for ya bud. This exhaust guy may just be wanting to live out his dream on your car.

yup the only muff's ur goin to stick under there properly are the resonator tubes...The F-body just wasnt designed for true dual exhaust. Thats the one thing i always misunderstood.

I've got 3" td's with the 1-chamber flowmasters. As a matter of fact, my whole system from the headers back is flowmaster. It sounds awesome!! I wouldnt trade it for anything. Everyone says it sounds like a cross between a 60's muscle car and a 5.0 mustang. I've gotten tons of compliments on the sound.

i have that setup..... i used a magnaflow tuned x, magnaflow high flow cats and 40 seris flows...... now you are gonna have to beat in you seat pans to get the muffler to fit......but that is something that everyone is scared of but u cant tell that you did it once you do inside or out(just dont watch him do it it kinda makes you cry to see some guy hitting you car with a hammer .....its sounds mean, really deep and bassy at idle, mine are dumped (sets off car alarms) but not annoyingly loud ...actually my old y pipe catback was louder at idle. it sounds mean as **** at wot there is alittle drone on the highway under 1700 rpm.....i am really pleased with my whole system.excepts my subframes are rubbing on it now and it rattles i would go for it if i were you.....and super 40's are an inch fatter.....so think about it before you do it....but it can be done (o by the way i have them for 4 months and have only scraped 2 times) tim

sorry, no pics of the rear, but it doesnt look bad. It probably helps though that the car is black. If it was a lighter color, it would probably stand out more, but regardless, the sound more than makes up for it!

Well the template I used I actually in this forum under the big exhaust section thats always at the top of the page. In that set up who ever built it used the bullet style mufflers. When I told the guy at the shop what sound I was looking for, he suggested the 40 series. I origionally wanted 3 inch out the back, but because of the rear end, I would have to goto 2.5 over the axle. I suggested out the side, and said it was a winner. Now some body correct me if I am wrong, the 80 series is a slimmed down version of the 40's right? 80's would work also right?

no the 80 series is like the stock type muffler as in a cross-flow. The only muffler smaller than a 40 series is the 1 chambers

I have the single chambers on my car with pipes ran out the back. I went under the axle with my duals and it looks clean. I am however going to change the tips out for some C6 tips i recently picked up and have three bolt flanges put on the ends of the mufflers so that I have the option of going back to a dumped setup when I want. If you get the 40 series on your car, take some pictures and make a few videos of it. I am very curious as to how it looks/sounds on an ls1. Keep us updated.

There was a thread awhile back about a guy that ran the exhaust out the side of his car, I think his exited more towards the doors instead of the tires but you may want to do a search and find it.

i run the 40 series race muffler they are alot smaller than a regular 40 series and give better options for where you wanna mount them. i ran mine out back and welded the tips on them. I will try to get some pics up to show you soon as i get it reworked on friday

Its being done this Wed. I will get photos and video also so I will keep everyone posted. I started it with the straight headers, and honestly it kinda sounds like crap. Maybe when I do a cam this winter, the straight headers may sound better.

By friday I will have a super 40 welded to the back of the ORY(stock cat location), then run 3" tubing back to the axle and dump it out towards the passenger side.

Why not have the 40 welded sideways in the stock location?
