Default Cutout Install

I just bought a 3" cutout from JEGs for my stock exhaust on my 98 Z28. My brother has a hack saw and a welder. Is this an easy install or is this something a muffler shop should do? Thanks.

You should be able to do it. Take a long *** time to cut through the pipes with a hack saw though you really need a sawzall...

yeah, its too long a job with a hacksaw, a sawzall will make short work of it.

I wouldn't do it yourself. Take it to a muffler shop. The section they cut out of the I-pipe, or anywhere else you install it should be shorter than the cutout itself. They will then expand the edges of the cutout so it slips over the existing pipe, and then weld a bead. Shop should do it for you for 30 bucks and it will be a clean install. It's good to slip the widened cutout over the existing pipe because you can always take away more material. It's a bit harder to add though. Also makes it easier to reposition the pipe with the cutout on there.

$60 for cutout and install here, but GOOD LUCK with your hacksaw.
