Question Stock Thermostat is...

What temp is a stock thermostat? My Reason for asking is my vette I just got has a 160 in there right now and it takes a long time for it to heat up, and when it does it's only 170-180 at cruising. 190-200 at a stop light. I personally feel that these engines need to be hot, and it should hang around 190 or so. My Camaro hangs around 185-190 cruising and stays around 195-207 at a stop light (fans don't let it get any hotter) 170 is too cold.

Well the hypertech "180" is 50 bucks and the GM one is $18.47 from GMPD. So what's the stocker? 185? 190? Thanks

Stock is about 180 rated and 194F actual. Hypertech "160"
is about 177 actual. Just use the stocker.

Thanks guy, that'll save me some cash. Plus I'm not exactly a fan of Hypertech stuff... Their "tune" only bumps up the timing 1 degree or so in the g/cyl area right around WOT.

So I think a stock one will be going in, and I have to add the Corvette on to my HP Tuners package so I can write to it...

Yep,

Proper fan settings allow 194-196 running temps with the stock stat no problem. They start to open at about 180 as stated above.

I'm running a "modified" stock Tstat, basically shimmed to open at around 160*. I pretty much run high 180's cruising, maybe get to about 194* in stop and go traffic. I'm using the Hypertech 160 stat fan turn on temps.
FWIW.
EDIT: It's been several years since I did the Tstat mod, actually I think it opens around 170 ish. Can't find my notes right now. Anyway, getting the fans on early is what makes the difference, overall.
