Default magnaflow muffler

i wanted to start modding my car but realized that i should save towards a house. I am lucky to be 21 and have my car paid off, i should enjoy it mostly how it is. Would just throwing a magnaflow muffler sound descent or as good as a cat back? Id rather get the muffler and lid and be done with it and save my money. i went to ls1 sounds but it doesnt seem that someone has muffler only with everything else stock.

It should sound very close to the same as if you had the catback. I'm also in a bind as well. I'm in my second year of college and I'll be needing to buy a house in a couple years. I have the car paid off as well, it's so hard not to do mods. Especially when you have a few thousand dollars laying around. Even though you should be saving it for a house.

Sound will be similar. Just a magnaflow muffler alone will be pretty quiet; just a tad louder than stock at idle and cruise and very mellow at WOT.

I disagree. I have just a mangaflow muffler on my car. Its not obnoxious, but its a fair amount louder than stock. Has a nice rumble also!

I guess exhaust note is very subjective. I put a magnaflow muffler only as well on a '99 Z28 that I had years ago. Car was stock otherwise. There was barely any change from stock sound at idle or cruise IMO.

If you could spare 300-320 you could get a TSP RUMBLER catback system (cheaper with out tips) and a lid and be done with it. Magnaflow is just to close to sounding stock justify it. Just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope you don't get the modding bug!

hey, i had ur same setup for a long time (lid and stock catback+magnaflow) and i loved it. i didnt want super loud, plus magnaflow is THE top flowing catback out there (outside of the Rumbler) it is not obnoxious and i like the mellowness of it. wait till u throw some headers on there..... then u will LOVE it

i know you can make a lot of mufflers fit but what would i need, the 2.5 inlet to dual 2.5 outlet? i searched but couldnt find anything. Theres a stainless muffler listed as firebird/camaro in 24" and 26" on magnaflows website. whats the right one?

There are other catbacks that will flow just as well as magnaflow besides just Rumbler.

I used a 3" inlet dual 2.5" outlet replacement muffler. That was over 6 years ago though, I can't remember the part number.

I'll second that idea...If you're trying to save money the cutout is the way to go. Plus it sounds great on an otherwise stock car.
