Default Somebody help me figure out WTF is wrong with my car.

I just put a converter in it this weekend, I removed the AIR, and put hooker shorty headers on. I took it out for a short test drive and it started running like crap. I autotapped it and it said I was getting missfires on #6 and code P0140 (rear o2 sensor). I came home and took off the plug wire didn't see anything wrong so I put it back and started it again. The missfires on #6 were still there, but they were down to about 10 counts from 60. The o2 mv for bank one cycled from about 175-545 and bank two 65-855.
The car is a 1998 TA mods on it are:
hooker shorty headers and catback
yank py3000
FIPK
TR55's and MSD wires.
Anyone out there have an idea what might be wrong??

I'd look to see if you have an exhaust leak. also see if the wires are on there right; not burnt on the new headers.

I'm sure the wires are on right and I've got some of those heat resistant sleeves over the ones that are close to the headers. I do have an exhaust leak where the Y pipe connects to the catback.

eh, that's pretty far back, probably not the problem; but it's worth a shot. Any chance you cracked the porcealin on #6 , or damaged it on the install?

I doubt the exhaust leak at the end of the Y pipe is doing it myself because back when I had longtubes on the car I had a worse exhaust leak for about 2 weeks and I didn't have any trouble. I don't think I messed up any plugs, but I've got some TR6's for it I think I'm gonna stick them in tommorrow. The weird thing is when I took the plug wire off #6 and put it back on the misfire went away for a while and #4 was misfiring a little. The last time I monitored it #6 was misfiring about 4 times a cycle and #4 about 2.

Ok it turns out #4 and #6 had cracked plugs, but here's the messed up part...it's STILL doing it. I let it idle for about 5 minutes and it was fine until i started backing it out of the garage, and it started again. I'm gonna go a switch the wires and see if maybe that's the cause.

Ok, it seems the missfire is only at idle. I just took it down the road and back for about 5 minutes and the missfires went away (trying to drive and watch the laptop is a bitch) I did notice a little bit of surging. When I stopped and let it idle I got a couple counts of missfire here and there but nothing like before. Could it be the computer recalibrating for the shorty headers and stock Y pipe, before I had longtubes and no cats.

When I had misfire on #6 and tried everything else plugs, wires, coilpacks, injectors, I mean everything, I had ended up burning the wires that come off the o2 sensors. Try that.

If it's random missfires at idle, it's from the converter. I tune will fix it. I had the same problem, car was missing at idle, sometimes it would cause the converter to not lock. Good luck.

Other than a couple slight misses at idle that i wouldn't notice unless i had autotap it works fine. I'm gonna have to bump up the line pressure a little i think, but other than that i'm going to leave it until I get my turbo kit on and get it tuned. I do have hp tuners though, could I tune it myself? I'm not sure what I'd have to mess with to take care of a missfire.

If it's not causing you a problem I would leave it alone. Mine was ok until I put a pretty big cam in it. After the cam went in the verter would only lock about 1/3 of the time. There are 2 ways to deal with it, one is to turn off the missfire detection, which is what I had done. I'm not sure on the other method, but it is described in one of the sticky's in the PCM section. Some missfires at idle are normal with a bigger stall.
