Default Shifter Problems

Not sure if this is where to post this or not, but I recently installed a pro 5.0 shifter in my 98 Camaro SS. Ever since I put it in, it has been making a rattling noise that gets louder the higher the RPM's are. I checked and no bolts are loose, what could be causing this metal/rattling type sound?

the pro 5.0 doesn't have any rubber bushings so it's louder than, for example, the factory hurst. mine always made a bit of scraping noise. do a search in the manual transmission forum, i'm sure that there have been plenty of posts regarding this.

i just installed the umi short stick and i hear some nosies i never heard before either, i'm assuming its because of the rubber bushing not being there.

After I installed my shifter on my V6 stang I can hear the gear whine really good. In 3rd sounds like a supercharger

Mine makes noise also. Is it a metallic "jingling" noise like dimes in a metal can?? I only get this during WOT runs in 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Spoke to the techs at Rockland Standard Gear and they were telling me it could be anything i.e.; not enough shims (on mainshaft I believe), worn forks/synchros, etc. since mine has over 80K on it. Never thought it could be the Pro 5.0, but maybe.

If the noise bothers you, you can reduce it by putting a piece of either rubber or cork gasket material between the shifter stick and the shifter, this will dampen some of the noises (tho not all)
BTW make sure your shifter stick bolts are tight, they sometimes come loose causing odd metallic noises (especially if it's only one thats gotten loose)
